La Scuola Estiva di Musica e Filosofia di Maratea e il Maratea Musica Festival sono iniziative volte a far confluire nello stesso luogo e nello stesso momento esperienze legate da una parte al mondo della musica teorica o musicologia generale, dall' altra a quelle della musica pratica.
La parte teorica si estrinseca in una serie di seminari legati al tema via via scelto come traccia annuale di lavoro; quella pratica ha modo di estrinsecarsi in una nutrita serie di concerti in concomitanza con i seminari.
Ogni anno, a partire dal 1996, in media abbiamo ospitato dagli 8 ai 12 docenti, dai 16 ai 24 musicisti impegnati nei concerti, dai 10 ai 20 borsisti.
La nostra esperienza di Maratea non è un' occasione distributiva, ma è un' esperienza ideativa e produttiva, con un marcato carattere di continuità nel tempo, sia per impegno artistico-scientifico, sia per continuità della direzione artistica e del gruppo dirigente.
Il giorno si discute, la sera si ascolta musica. Questa la formula.
Durante i seminari quotidiani una serie di relatori articola il proprio intervento intorno al tema generale, davanti a un pubblico selezionatissimo e partecipe. La sera tutto si trasforma assumendo la veste del concerto pubblico, coinvolgendo tutto il paese in un tentativo di connubio tra colto e popolare.
Le manifestazioni godono di grande prestigio a livello nazionale per il livello dei docenti di musica e filosofia fino ad ora coinvolti e presentano marcati caratteri di gradimento anche a livello locale, riconoscendovi una importante occasione di richiamo culturale.

The Summer School of Music and Philosophy in Maratea and the Maratea Music Festival are aimed to gather in the same place and at the same time different events that are linked on one side to theoretical music or musicology in general and on the other to practical music.
The theoretical aspects are presented during a series of eminars on the subject of the year; while as regards music a wide series of concerts will take place in parallel with the seminars.
Since 1996 we have been welcoming from 8 to 12 teachers, from 16 to 24 musicians who played during the concerts and from 10 to 20 bursars.
The events held in Maratea are not simple shows but they represent an ideational and productive experience strongly characterised by continuity as regards both our artistic and scientific efforts and the art direction and managing group that has never been modified.
During the day we discuss and in the evening we listen to music. This is the main schedule.
During the daily seminars a series of speakers make their speeches focusing on the general subject. They talk to a really selected and involved public. In the evening, then, the atmosphere changes and the public concerts held involve the whole town trying to combine educated and popular aspects.
These events are highly appreciated in Italy considering the high level of music and philosophy teachers; furthermore they have been strongly appreciated even by the town itself as they are important cultural crowd-pulling events.
